Onkyo has launched two new hi-fi stereo systems replete with bundled iPod docks at the kind of price points that make you look twice and think about buying one whether you need it or not.
First up is the CS-325UKD, which will set you back a paltry £200, or the same price as Meridian's super high-end standalone iPod dock. For your cash you'll get a fully-fledged stereo system with CD player, 40-preset DAB and FM radio, svelte matching speakers and an iPod dock bundled in for good measure.
Internally there's a raft of sound-improving tech including a single-bit DAC for improved CD playback with MP3 encoded CD compatibility.
The speakers employ Onkyo's MicroFibre Cone material alongside an Aero Acoustic Drive for improving bass resonance. The bundled dock charges the iPod as it plays and is fully controlled via the main Onkyo remote.
A little higher up the scale is the CS-525UKD, which retails for £350 as a full package or £250 as a standalone receiver unit without the speakers.
What Onkyo calls mid-level, the 525UKD offers the same features as the 325UKD such as 40 preset DAB/FM tuner, but with extras like AM tuner, 2x 26W output, Wolfson stereo D/A converter for improved fidelity, optical digital out for pass through to another component and a front-mounted USB port for music playback from a compatible source.
Both systems are out now.
