The rumours have been flying for months and we've dutifully covered them all - everything from claims of confirmed mass orders for Blu-ray drives in the Far East to statements from inside Microsoft claiming no such device exists.
But it seems the truth has been confirmed recently in an interview with David Gosen, Xbox VP of strategic marketing for Europe, by T3 Magazine, and sadly it's a no go for the BD drive.
Gosen states that Blu-ray is not considered a longterm format for the company, and instead it will focus on its gaming and Xbox Live service and will concentrate on distributing its media via the US-based Netflix rental service, due to appear in Europe in the not too distant future.
This announcement is undoubtedly going to disappoint numerous 360 owners, and rightly so as it seems a little like a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face for Microsoft, but at least disgruntled owners can now head out and buy a decent BD spinner without concern.
