Amazon's push into the digital download market continues apace with the launch of its streaming video service in the States, Amazon Video on Demand.
The service is initially available to a limited number of Amazon.com customers as a trial prior to its full launch later this summer.
The service has two interesting facets - namely that it's a streaming rather than download structure, so you can view content instantly without having to wait for the download. Secondly, Amazon has apparently signed a deal with Sony to deliver content directly to its BRAVIA line of HD televisions.
The internet store will be accessible direct from the BRAVIA TVs initially using a $300 transmitter to deal with the mass amounts of decoding required, with future displays having the unit incorporated.
Amazon will look to expand the service to other partnerships, both on the manufacturer and on the studio side, though apparently Disney and ABC content will not be shown due to the companies' close relations with Apple.
No news on when this service will be available in Blighty, though with the current furore surrounding downloads speeds in the UK, the likelihood is it won't be for some time.
