Danish company Jamo, recently bought out by manufacturer Eclipse, has released the A7 surround speaker series. The A7 range will initially be made up of three models, the A775 floorstander, the A7CEN centre speaker and the A7SUB subwoofer. Two further models will be announced later this year.
The A775 is a 111cm high speaker featuring two 102mm woofers plus a 19mm tweeter that has been integrated into one of the bass drivers, to maintain the correct acoustic phase.
The drivers use powerful neodymium magnets of above average efficiency so that more internal volume is freed up, which in turn means better bass extension. Power handling is dealt with by 30mm voice-coils. The drive units are anchored to the back of the speaker as well as the front, in order to increase rigidity and enhance accuracy. The aluminium profiles used for the A775 speakers are extremely light, weighing a mere 4.6kg each.
The A7CEN uses a pair of smaller 90mm variants of the A775's woofers in a sealed box enclosure, together with a 19mm tweeter. Both the A7CEN and the A775 speakers offer a wide frequency response.
Sporting a 10in woofer, the A7SUB comprises a closed box design fitted with a 200 watt digital amplifier capable of delivering 500 watts of peak power. The A7SUB has a low frequency extension of 35Hz.
The series has been created by designers Smedegaard and Weis (responsible for the entire Jamo 2F range) and intentionally matches Jamo's existing HDP 4250 plasma screen and DVR 50 DVD receiver. The A 7 series is available now, and for more information, visit: www.jamo.com
