Cambridge Audio Fusion

Cambridge Audio Fushion

Cambridge Audio has long since won us over with its blend of high quality, high aesthetic Britishness, and the latest product in its lineup, the Fusion, looks to be no different.

A fully integrated micro hi-fi system, it combines a meaty 2.1 amplifier delivering 30W per channel into 6 ohms with a bespoke iPod dock, hi-fi quality CD player and DAB/FM tuner, 'which work in perfect harmony'. We're guessing hence the Fusion moniker.

The iPod dock isn't the primary draw says Cambridge Audio, especially as it's not yet compatible with the iPhone. Fusion also sports front-mounted USB, line-in and SD card connections to take advantage of most all digital media, and the CD player is compatible with LPCM CDs as well as MP3 and WMA encoded discs.

The DAB/FM tuner offers 20 presets and RDS and there's a dimmable two-line LCD to see what you're listening to. Tailored to work best with CA's own speaker arrays, there are three-way binding posts rather than spring clips for speaker connection, and a subwoofer out affords 2.1 performance.

The Navigator remote is apparently 'a style icon in its own right' (we take that with a dollop of salt), and offers control of every function including the Pod when docked.

Available in silver and black with a custom designed metal chassis this November, the Fusion will retail just shy of an entirely achievable £300.

Trying to decide between the Fusion (probably with something like Tanoy Mercury F1s), the Denon DM37 (pos also with the Tanoys) and the Onkyo CS 525. Any thoughts from people in the know?
