Goldring has launched the new GR2 turntable, building on last year's acclaimed GR1. Like its predecessor, the GR2 is a manually-operated, two-speed, belt-drive turntable with a clear hinged cover, but Goldring claim the GR2 features major design advantages over the GR1.
Firsly, the GR2 comes ready fitted with the £100 Goldring 1012GX cartridge, a moving magnet design that boasts a Gyger 2 fine line stylus and claims outstanding sonic performance. Furthermore, this cartridge is fitted to an uprated version of the Goldring tonearm that benefits from closer tolerance arm bearings and a more rigid chassis mounting assembly.
The GR2 also features an increase in the size of the platter main bearing by 50 per cent to 18mm, which Goldring claims reduces rumble. It's also fitted with an 8mm steel 'mass ring' around the circumference of the platter, which is said to substantially improve the flywheel effect and reduces wow and flutter.
The Goldring GR2 is available now with a recommended retail price of £265. For more information, visit: www.goldring.co.uk
