Word of a solar powered portable music player has been mumbled for many a year - rumour even popped up of Apple sun powering the iPod at one point - but now Singapore company Shiro has gone and launched one in the shape of the SQ-S.
The SQ-S works thanks to its rear panel of solar photovoltaic cells that will apparently fully charge the player in four hours of sunlight (though we hasten to add that's four hours of Singapore sunlight - it'll likely be longer in the UK).
Bar the solar stuff, the SQ-S sports an FM tuner with record, compatibility with MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE, M4A and OGG codecs, JPG, BMP and GIF picture and SMV video support with conversion from AVI, MPG, WMV, Real Player, QuickTime, MP4 and DVD files.
The screen is a 1.8in 65k colour LCD. Playback runs to 38hours for music and ten for video, with recharging optional via USB as well as solar, should the sun not be shining.
UK launch dates and prices for the models ranging 'up to 16GB' in capacity are TBC.
