There are very few iPod speaker docks on the market that do a decent job of making themselves stand out from the crowds, but Parrot's Zikmu most definitely falls into this category.
Big, imposing floorstanders designed by legendary Frenchman Philippe Starck, the Zikmus stand two-and-a-half feet tall in a sweeping, curved chimney design.
Already available across the pond, they're linked by Bluetooth (A2DP)and pair up wirelessly, with one featuring a top-mounted iPod dock that ticks the usual boxes of iPod charging and music playback, while a Wi-Fi connection means tracks can also be streamed digitally from PC or mobile phone. Total power output is 100W RMS.
Employing NXT technology, the Zikmu speakers claim 360-degree immersive sound with a total power output of 100W.
With some brilliant rhetoric, Parrot explains that 'To discover an object designed by Philippe Starck is to walk into a world of vivid imagination and fantasy' further elaborating that 'born from the elegance of minimum and an absolute technology, the Parrot by Philippe Starck wireless speakers, with their aerial curves and dense black lacquered colour, inscribe themselves in timelessness'. Crikey.
Starck has also added his own two cents, 'We were not aiming to create just another speaker. Our design focused more on making the air vibrate. There is actually a three-dimensional feel to the vibration, meaning that the air is palpable, almost humanlike in presence, like a fragrance'.
Hmmm. While we may not be entirely convinced by such claims, we are looking forward to having a listen and, it would seem, a smell when they are released in the spring, retailing for an eye-watering £1,200.
