The subscription free satellite TV service Freesat as announced it intends to partner up with the Beeb's hugely successful iPlayer service following the publishing of its final quarter reports that show sales have doubled despite the economic slowdown.
The report showed that by the end of 2008 Freesat had sold over 200,000 units since its May launch, a marked increase on the 100,000 figure from the end of September.
The MD of Freesat Emma Scott noted that, 'The quality and choice of channels and services available and the added benefits offered by Freesat+ have really struck a chord'.
Scott went on to add that 'Key goals in 2009 include increasing our product range and distribution by the quality and choice of channels and services available, and the anticipated launch of IPTV services, like BBC iPlayer onto Freesat later this year'.
Amongst the first additions to the service for 2009 will be the terrestrial HD channels BBC HD with its Six Nations Rugby coverage and ITV HD with the FA Cup and Champions League.
