Panasonic has done what many people consider unnecessary and launched the world's first portable Blu-ray player with the DMP-B15.
Why unnecessary? Simple, it's debatable just how much added benefit users will get from watching a Blu-ray flick on an 8.9in WSVGA screen.
There is an HDMI connector for hooking to an HDTV however, making the technology a little more worthwhile.
Endowed with VIERA CAST technology, the DMP-B15 offers BD-Live functionality and access to online content including the likes of YouTube and Amazon's video on demand service.
An SD card slot enables playback of other media, and battery life sits at a claimed three hours.
No details on launch date or pricing as yet.
