Rotel 15 Series RA-1520, RCD-1520,

By Duncan Madden

Rotel RCD1520

PAmerican audio electronics specialist Rotel has added to its 15 Series home cinema range with new two-channel components including integrated amp, CD player, and stereo and power preamps.

First up then is the RA-1520 stereo integrated amp, a 'muscular' 2x60W (into 8ohms) design that promises to deliver 'all of the musical performance the artist intended'. Playback of uncompressed digital and analogue will be rendered faithfully and there are inputs for tuner, tape, CD and auxiliary.

The RCD-1520 CD player utilises a segmented power supply with large toroidal transformer to minimise power supply sag and reduce interference. There's a Wolfson DAC for advanced digital filtration and D/A conversion, while the slot-loading CD mechanism means there's no flimsy drawer to break.

Two preamps arrive in the shape of the top-end RC-1580 designed for hi-fi purists with absolute musical fidelity. Component parts include an oversized toroidal power transformer, and special BHC capacitors along with circuit topology chosen for its sound quality.

A unity gain stage ensures a surround processor to feed straight through to the power amp, bypassing the volume control for the best of audio and video. There's a low noise MM/MC phono with discrete differential input stages as well as CD, tuner, two aux, RS-232 and IR inputs.

The lesser RC-1550 is still described as 'rock solid' with custom made toroidal transformer and select grade BHC foil capacitors. There are six line-level inputs and a single phono, 12-volt trigger jack and contour control for repeatable timbre adjustments.

Lastly come the RB-1582 and RB-1552 stereo power amplifiers that are 'rugged, stable and natural sounding'.

Both feature 12-volt triggers for remote operation with the RB-1582 offering 2x 200W and the RB-1552 2x 120W power output.

All are available across the pond now, with pricing set at $1,000 or the RA-1520 integrated amp; $1,000 for the RCD-1520 CD player; $1,300 for the RC-1580 and $700 for the RC-1550 preamps; and $1,500 for the RB-1582 and $900 for the RB-1552 power amps.
