The DAB radio station that played only birdsong has finally been taken off air despite protests from its loyal followers including well-known celebs like author Terry Pratchett.
The Birdsong channel has been running for 18 months even though it was only meant as a filler for a DAB station that was closed down until a new station could be found.
Birdsong had developed a regular following of half a million listeners who described it as relaxing and the ideal accompaniment to going to bed. It is to be replaced by Amazing Radio, a new station that will play songs from unsigned artists who've uploaded their music to the amazingtunes.com website over the last four years.
The story was announced today by British radio manufacturer PURE, which is offering consolation to those mourning the loss of Birdsong with its Tempus-1S, Evoke Flow and Avanti Flow DAB radios, all of which offer 'natural sounds including birdsong' as pre-recorded features.
