Sonos Digital Music System

US-based electronics manufacturer Sonos has announced that its award-winning Digital Music System will begin shipping to European digital music lovers next month. It offers easy-install wireless connectivity to your music throughout your home.

Sonos claims that it's the first and only multi-zone digital music system with a wireless, full-colour LCD screen controller that lets you play all your digital music anywhere in the home and control it from the palm of your hand. The real selling point is that it promises to be plug and go in about ten minutes.

The Digital Music System is made up of two components: the ZonePlayer, a networked audio player that connects to your PC by ethernet cable and distributes (via Sonos's proprietary wireless mesh network, Sonosnet), plays and amplifies your music, and the Controller, a hand-held device which, true to its name, allows you to access, control and customize your music via a splashproof wireless handheld device with colour touch screen.

The ZonePlayer is powered by a 50-watt amplifier and can play a variety of music formats, including MP3, WMA, AAC (MPEG4), FLAC, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis and WAV, stored on a PC, Mac or Network Attached Storage (NAS), and comes bundled with customizable internet radio stations. In a neat function, the Controller lets you play the same song synchronized in every room or play different songs in different rooms, queue-up favorites for later or play them in random order. The high resolution LCD display shows what is playing in any area at any time, including album art when available.

Sonos will offer an introductory bundle of two ZonePlayers and a Controller with prices starting from £899. To find out more about the Sonos Digital Music System visit: http://eu.sonos.com
