British valve-powered iPod dock specialist Roth Audio has announced two new desktop speaker systems promising hi-fi sound quality for computers and MP3 players.
The CHARLiE comes in two varieties - the 2.0 version uses an active monitor design with an amplifier built into the speaker cabinet which can deliver 15 watts per channel. The larger CHARLiE 2.1 meanwhile keeps its electronics tucked away inside its tube-shaped subwoofer and is capable of delivering 25 watts per channel plus another 25 watts for the sub itself.
Both 2.0 and 2.1 come with a bundled RothDock which offers a wireless link to the speakers for iPod, iPhone or other MP3 player through the RothDock's 3.5mm jack plug. They also have a USB port for connecting to computers which will simultaneously charge and sync with iTunes.
Roth AV founder James Roth said: “The numbers of people now listening to music through computer systems, as well as iPhones and iPods, makes the CHARLiE 2.0 and 2.1 essential. Essential, yes, but beautiful looking and superb sounding, too.”
Available in either black or white, both systems will be available from April, the CHARLiE 2.0 for £199 and the 2.1 for £299.
