40 products unveiled at IFA

German speaker maker Canton has unveiled 40 new products at the IFA show in Berlin, including new versions of its Karat, Chrono and GLE Series.

The new Karat Series uses trickle-down technology from Canton's high-end Reference range. Both floorstanders (the £2,400 790.2 DC, pictured, and the £1,900 770.2 DC) are now available with new cabinet designs that keep the slim front profile of earlier models, but which are now both shorter and deeper.

Improvements to the sound include acoustic tuning based on the Reference range crossover design and new wave roll surround and motor assemblies to the bass drivers.

The same crossover and driver technology has also been included in the £750 720.2 DC standmount and £500 755.2 DC Centre in the new Karat range, with all models available in white, titanium or black high gloss cabinets.

A little further down the price scale, the Chrono SL Series will now come with chrome design features and high-gloss finishes. The £1,300 Chrono SL570 is a new smallish two-and-a-half-way floorstander with a new driver arrangement that the company says improves off-axis response.

The new Chrono series features three floorstanders - the £1,300 509.2 DC, the £1,050 508.2 DC and the £900 507.2 - and two standmounts, the £600 503.2 and the £500 502.2, as well as the £300 505.2 Centre and the £400 501 on-wall speaker.

The technology in the Chrono series is similar to that of its SL brethren, but housed in more affordable cabinets, with the 508.2 DC using Canton's downward firing port for improved output efficiency and less audible distortion. All speakers in the Chrono series are available in white or black vinyl with high gloss finished baffles.

The entry-level GLE series also includes Reference level wave surround driver technology and new crossover designs. The two floorstanders are the £800 490.2 and the £650 470.2 while the standmounts are the £400 430.2 and the £350 420.2. There's also the £250 455.2 Centre and £280 410.2 on-wall speakers, all of which have been tuned to deliver equally well for stereo or home cinema reproduction. All the GLE speakers come in white, mocca/white, nut/white, beach/white, silver or black matt vinyl finishes.

As well as traditional speaker systems, Canton has also introduced the 100-watt DM8 soundbar which features improved bass performance, three analogue inputs and a subwoofer output.
