The topic of mains noise is a thorny one for many of our readers, evidently throwing up as many questions as answers. Although it's generally accepted that mains filters and power cords can provide a purer sound for your hi-fi, there's been some contention on the forum as to the extent of their success in achieving this. And ultimately, with much more glamourous AV kit luring us in, are mains plugs something we should really bother with??
Manufacturer IsoTek certainly thinks so and having already staked its claim in the mains plug market with the IsoPlug, its attempted to push the concept further with the newly released NeoPlug. Although there is a relative leap in cost between the IsoPlug and NeoPlug (the Iso is £30,the Neo is £50) IsoTek claims the highly sophisticated circuitry of the NeoPlug is well worth the additional investment, bridging the gap between the IsoPlug and more the sophisticated IsoTek mains filters and distribution systems. The main improvement is said to be in the NeoPlug's ability to remove high frequency 'mush' that can all to easily cause listening fatigue.
We've not tested IsoTek's plugs ourselves but the older IsoPlug has got a couple of fairly solid reviews from our readers. For a more in-depth look at the NeoPlug have a look at IsoTek's website here.
