We have a competition winner folks! For his all-round sterling efforts on the forum, the quite beautiful walnut-coated Tivoli Model DAB radio has been taken home by Mike Nightingale. Here's what he had to say on his prize:
Being a fan of hi-fi in sleek 430mm black boxes, I have been perplexed by the fascination with retro style DAB radios, however, one should never look a gift horse in the mouth, so with a little disbelief (I won something) I took possession of a Pure Sonus-1XT last week.
First impressions are of a very competent piece of kit, even with just the one speaker it fills the room easily with effortless hiss-free music and dj chat (yes I have to admit I have a girlfriend who flits mainly from Radio 2 to Radio 4). On the occasions where I have cranked it up, it has been me, not the radio, that blinked first - this radio is a powerful beast. As an alarm clock though, this radio is perfect, it makes me smile just to look at it and the sound is warm enough to tempt my toes out from under the duvet, even on a cold December morn.
Of course, for the stereo enthusiasts out there, it couldn't be easier to push this radio through your own hi-fi (it connects to the same 3.5mm jack as your mp3 player), giving the scary impression of having Terry W in the room with you!!
The lack of an FM tuner, might bug some people, but the only small downside to this radio, given the fact that it has a gorgeously designed snooze/carry handle is the fact that it is only mains powered. Maybe they could manage to blend the looks of this radio with their ChargePAK™ rechargeable battery in the next redesign. G&T in the park, listening to England thrashing Germany (again!), bring on the Summer!
