Thankfully these days there are a few manufacturers opting to release longer digital cables. The latest to do so is Tech+Link, who's new WiresXS HDMI lead is available in two metres, five metres, 10 metres and 15 metres.
Careful steps have been taken to ensure high picture and sound quality, including the use of oxygen-free copper conductors throughout and FPE (foam polyethylene) insulation. The conductor bundle is wrapped in a secondary outer aluminium and Mylar foil shield and enclosed in a full copper braid. As well as this, there's a PVC outer jacket and woven nylon cover to help protect the conductors from damage. For improved signal transfer the HDMI connectors have gold-plated terminals, and lastly the transparent connector shell has bevelled shoulders at the front to help fit those often deep inset HDMI sockets.
The two metre lead will cost around £50, which is a good £20 cheaper than
Profigold's recent effort. Pricing for longer lengths has yet to be confirmed.
