This Friday marks the start the Sound & Vision Bristol Show held in err, Bristol and to coincide with this gigantic AV fest, Meridian is to unveil its M3100 analogue active loudspeaker.
Like its DSP counterpart which we reported on at the end of last year, the M3100 is a compact bookshelf speaker for near-field monitoring and small living spaces. The M3100 can be used in a number of ways, for example, as surrounds in a system featuring floorstanders as the main stereo pair, in smaller stand-alone systems or as second zone speakers in a Meridian multi-room environment.
The M3100's cabinet is made from braced wood with piano-lacquered ends and aluminium side-panels bonded for rigidity. For multi-channel systems there is an accompanying horizontal centre speaker, the M3100HC, which is magnetically-shielded for positioning closely above or below TV sets in home cinema setups.
The vertical units feature a two-way rear-ported enclosure, while the horizontal centre is a 2½-way closed box design. Featuring high-efficiency long-throw 6in (M3100) or dual 5¼in (M3100HC) bass drivers, the '3100 also includes a 1in Meridian piston treble drive unit with doped fabric dome. The drivers are powered directly by independent, high power (75W), low-feedback amplifiers fed from an audiophile-grade power supply with a large toroidal transformer.
The M3100 is available in black or silver and will be available from next month at £1,845 per pair, while the matching
stands are £330 per pair. The M3100HC horizontal centre speaker with its twin bass drivers is priced £1,565.
