If aliens made iPod docks, they'd probably look like this. The saucer shaped XMI518 Round Sound stereo system is the latest product from IXOS, capable of pumping out 8 watts of audio power for your 'Pod tunes.
The desktop-friendly dock works with iPod Mini, iPod 15/20Gb, iPod 30/40Gb, Nano and 5G Video and usefully it'll accept future Apple dock inserts too. The unit also allows for synchronisation with your PC or Mac as well as charging your iPod whether it is playing music or not.
Nowadays there are so many of this type of product on the market, but much like that other curiously shaped beast E.T., it's difficult not to be charmed by the Round Sound (and the price tag of just £50 makes it even easier to love).
