In preparation for its new HD service starting on June 9th, the BBC has begun its first high definition trials to a select number of lucky households.
Once up and running, BBC's HD service will run initially for 12 months, not only covering the World Cup but also this year's Wimbledon tournament. Also in high def will be some of the BBC's most ambitious programmes, such as Planet Earth and Galapagos. New programming will average between one and two hours per day, occasionally as a simulcast with BBC One and Two.
