Sony NW-A1200 walkman

Next month sees Sony launching yet another MP3 player - the 8GB NW-A1200.

Sporting the same design as its existing NW-A1000 6GB player, the new model does have a couple of interesting additions apart from the extra 2GB storage capacity. In a welcome, if somewhat surprising move, it's rumoured the NW-A1200 will be compatible with the AAC music format - traditionally associated with Apple's iTunes and iPod. The player will also be shipped with Sony's new (and hopefully improved) SonicStage CP software.

Like the NW-A1000, the NW-A1200 boasts an impressive twenty hours battery life, six more than the iPod Nano. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

It's good to see Sony finally embracing the AAC format, but I'm surprised they're even bothering to release any more MP3 players.

Surely Apple has won this particular contest?!

If I were them I'd concentrate on getting the PS3 up to scratch...
