BT has announced a challenge to Sky+ with a new digital TV service. The broadband-enabled BT Vision box (made by Philips) is HD-ready (there's an HDMI socket, as well as Ethernet and USB), contains a 160GB hard drive and will offer all the usual Freeview channels, plus some others yet to be announced and on-demand content which will be available via broadband.
The box has its own 14-day EPG and while there is no price announced yet, BT says there will be no initial subscription charge - viewers will pay only for on-demand content.
BT Vision is due to launch in the autumn, but you'll need to be a BT Broadband customer with one of the company's new Home Hub wireless routers.
