It's fair to say that our coverage of bathroom television sets has been somewhat limited, bordering on the non-existent, so isn't it nice to see two of the things, in bus like style, turn up at once?
First up, Armour Home Electronics has introduced the new 'Splash' television, a 17” widescreen LCD model designed for use in 'high humidity' environments such as bathrooms, kitchens and saunas.
Obviously having electrical stuff in such rooms is a teeny bit of a health hazard, but the new Splash screen takes enough precautions to avoid a toaster-in-the-bath type disaster. Powered using an ultra safe 12volt supply, it's completely water tight, being sealed both front and back, to meet all current wet room electrical regulations and even boasts a heated screen so the picture always stays free from condensation. For both space and safety reasons, the Splash TV is designed to be 'built-in' to an appropriate wall.
The Splash TV is available now for £1,650 and comes supplied with a water resistant remote control (rumours this is rubber duck shaped are unconfirmed).
Secondly, we have the Presentation Systems Ltd Envirovision range, the cheaper of the two but also the more feature dense. The 17in (which seems to be the standard for bathroom screens) widescreen LCD is, as you'd hope, totally water tight and includes a DVB Freeview tuner giving you access to over 60 television and radio stations. The range comes in mirror polished stainless steel, black mirror polish or gold stainless steel finishes, so you should be able to tailor it specifically to your décor.
Differences in the range come in the form of integral (17IA) or external speakers (17 EA). With pricing starting at £999.00 the Envirovision range is up to £650 cheaper than the Armour HE Spalsh. However, you could forget soaking in the bath and just have a quick shower safe in the knowledge that for about £700 - 800 you could buy a 32in HD ready flat panel. The choice, my friends, is yours.
