Having made a decent fist of the home cinema convergence market with last year's S-101 and S-301 systems, Denon has turned its attentions to hi-fi with the new S-81DAB stereo system.
With a shelf-friendly shallow chassis the S-81DAB combines a CD player (with MP3/WMA support), a DAB/FM/AM radio and 50W+50W power amplifier. Like the S-101 and S-301, iPod integration is the name of the game with a direct iPod lead coming supplied that plugs into the front. Alternatively you can use the optional Denon ASD-1R dock. A clock radio and fully functional remote complete the impressive spec sheet.
To affirm its lifestyle credentials the S-81DAB comes with uber-cool touch controls that light up in blue when touched, then slowly fade away. Ok, so these little hi-fi trimmings no doubt contribute to its somewhat high £600 price tag, but if money is no concern a classier iPod system you won't find.
