Evesham iPlayer PVR

Front Back

Just when we thought we were safe from anymore new products beginning with 'i', enter the iPlayer - the latest do-it-all PVR from Evesham.

Pitting itself against BT's new Vision service and Sky+, the Evesham iPlayer crams in a Freeview tuner, HD upscaling, time-shift recording, network media centre and web browser into its slim silvery shell.

Whilst the 80GB hard drive (for around 70 hours of recording) is pretty standard fare for a Freeview PVR, its real time upscaler is unique to the market, promising to sharpen a standard definition freeview picture to near-HD quality via HDMI and of course meaning the box is ready for HD Freeview broadcasts, whenever that may be.

Another innovation is TV Max, letting you connect to your PC or directly to the internet so you can browse the web and send email from your TV. In addition, media centre functionality lets you remotely stream content from your PC, such as video and music. The final cog in this future-proofed machine is Catch UP TV compatibility, meaning you can watch previously aired programmes via your internet connection.

All this makes the iPlayer easily the most advanced Freeview PVR on the market, and at £300 it costs no more than a Sky HD box. Our sister site GadgetCentre will have a full hands-on report of the iPlayer tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled.
