Platinum is undeniably a mark of class and durability - think watches, rings and er, when you've been married about 300 years, wedding anniversaries. So we guess it makes perfect sense to name your flagship speaker range after this most precious of metals.
The initial Monitor Audio Platinum line-up comprises three models; the PL100 compact two-way speaker, featuring one 6.5in Rigid Diaphragm Technology (RDT®) bass-mid driver and C-CAM high frequency ribbon transducer; the PL300 three-way floor standing loudspeaker, comprising two 8in RDT bass drivers, one 4in RDT mid-range driver and a C-CAM ribbon transducer; and the PL350C, a large three-way, four driver centre channel speaker utilizing the same driver complement as the PL300. Custom-designed floor stands are available for the PL100 and PL350C.
Platinum's braced cabinets are finished in Santos Rosewood and Ebony natural wood veneers which are coated with eleven (yes, eleven) layers of clear gloss piano lacquer. The front baffles are hand-upholstered in leather and loaded with new custom-developed drive units. It all sounds pretty classy to us.
Approximate prices are as follows: PL100 - £2,300; PL300 - £5,000; PL350C - £2,300; PL100 stands - £350; PL350C stand - £250. All models will be available from June.
