Cambridge Audio launches midrange Azur 740 series

Cambridge Audio Azur 740 series at CES 2007
Hi-fi expert Cambridge Audio has expanded its award winning Azur hi-fi range with a new midrange 740 series.

The 740 series comprises the 740A amp and 740C CD player, both using technology from the quite brilliant flagship 840 series (see here for our review of the 840A). The 740A puts out an impressive 100W RMS into 8 Ohms and boasts two pairs of output transistors per channel. A customisable front panel allows for assignable inputs to be displayed.

The 740C CD player also borrows the innards from the 840 series, with the same upsampling technology found in the in the 840C barnstormer, and marries this to dual Wolfson WM8740 24-bit DACs. The 740C incorporates the same 32-bit DSP as the 840C and upsamples to full 24-bit 384 kHz.

Out next month, the Cambridge Audio Azur 740A amp and 740C CD player cost around £500 each.

Have acquired the above named speakers and will soon need to purchase a new amp.

I have a Cambridge Azur CD player and a Project Expression turntable with speedbox, but no phono stage.

Looking for a one box solution £500 max.

Has anyone experience with similar set ups and could provide me with some purchasing advice/ audition suggestions?

Thanks.
