'MUSCULAR, POWERFUL SOUND BUT OVERPRICED'
Strengths:
Clear, dynamic, high current design that made others at this pricepoint sound a bit woolly. Especially in 2 channel mode with a regular CD player.
Weaknesses:
Build quality a bit suspect. Casework and knobs feel a bit like something that would cost a quarter of the price.
Overall:
I auditioned offerings from Rotel, Denon and Arcam that were all around the same pricepoint. The high current HK drove my tricky M&Ks (4 0hms) more convincingly than any of the others, but build quality on the outside is not so convinving. But I will be listening to this and not looking at it so who cares. However, I would have expected a more solid construction like the Denon for this money. Perhaps they spent the money on the internals instead.

BTW, I am used to regular 2 channel hi-fi. This AV stuff is a bit new to me. I was surprised at how lo-fi most of it sounds. Even the AVR630 and M&K and REL setup is not as good my Arcam/Mission stereo kit that cost 1/3rd of the price. Hence the score.

'This is an av AMPlifier not a WATTifier'
Strengths:
This is a high current device that drives my tricky M&Ks (4 Ohms)with gusto. Does quiet and loud with equal conviction. Sound stage is very convincing. And, the best dialogue I have heard from an AV amp of this price. Sounds pretty good in stereo too.
Weaknesses:
Construction a bit gimmicky and maybe flimsy in places.
Overall:
Superb in combination with the M&Ks and a REL sub. Not sure it works as well with other small speakers in the same price range. I auditioned a few, but this combination was perfect for my ears. Oh, and chest. You can really feel this system.
