Description: The Cyrus modular range of CD players is based around an upgradeable platform that allows each component to evolve into a more capable machine. CD 6 can be returned to the Cyrus factory and upgraded to full CD 8 specification.

'SMALL, BUT BEAUTIFULLY FORMED.'

Strengths:
Small, stylish, terrific sound.

Weaknesses:
Distinctive look means it looks best with other Cyrus gear.

Overall:
Picked one of these up second-hand for £300 a year ago and haven’t looked back. It’s true that Cyrus really only seems to go with Cyrus on the looks front but sound-wise I’ve got no problems. It goes loud without complaint and offers a strong aural picture with lots of low-level detail. It was my first introduction to hi-fi separates and it’s made all the difference to my listening. I’ve heard I can get it upgraded to full CD8 spec by returning it to Cyrus and maybe I will, but I’m not sure how significant the change will be.

'A LITTLE BOX OF WONDER'

Strengths:
Size, looks and of course, marvellous sound

Weaknesses:
Buttons on the player are hard to see from above

Overall:
A great CD player, which i picked up ex-demo for £400 in the summer. It is a real treat to listen to with my Rotel RA-03 and Monitor Audio S8s. Also future proofed as able to upgrade to the new 6s for £100 or the 8x for a cool £450 (maybe not this year!)
