'TRICKY BUT VERY GOOD ONE'
Strengths:
Excellent as DVD-video/audio and SACD player
Weaknesses:
CD reproduction somehow depressed, could be better with treble, but way better than dedicated CD players costing 500-600 k
Disgracefully ugly remote
Overall:
I own this player for almost 2 years and have had it out of use for half that period due a huge problem that appeared after 3 months of use: player stopped reading (only)redbook CDs!
After desperate and long searching for the solution across internet I was about to give it up for good.
Fortunately a local genius guy has solved the problem and now 2900 runs as new

'TROUBLESOME TOP ENDER'
Strengths:
it looks imposing and expensive. when on song, impressive audio and video
Weaknesses:
struggles with sacd and dvd audio discs, can throw a strop with any disc, dated remote, atrocious on screen graphics
Overall:
despite three repairs and the firmware updates this has been a huge let down over the last 4 yrs. i won't buy denon dvd players again.

'AWESOME BIT OF KIT'
Strengths:
Built like a tank. Fabulous picture, excellent multi format sound, DVD,
DVD-Audio and SACD. Lots of connections, PAL/NTSC Prog Scan. Good looks.
Weaknesses:
Remote could do with being backlit. Display dimmer doesn't remember settings. Can you tell i'm struggling here!
Overall:
A superb player and can now be had at some bargain prices. Everything works a treat and there's loads of adjustments to sound/picture settings. I really cannot see me changing this player for something better, ever.

'ALMOST UNIVERSALLY GREAT'
Strengths:
Solid and heavy build, looks almost undentable to me. Good, picture and good sound: SACD, DVD-Audio and DVD. Picture good and video quality great.
Weaknesses:
Slow disc- loading time, remote not backlit as previous reviewer mentions, and is not very user-friendly. Has trouble with some discs, especially ones that are slightly roughed up.
Wouldn't recommend it as a primary CD player.
Overall:
I bought this as a way of simplifying my set up while trying out DVD-Auido and SACD and in that respect it certainly worked. The build quality was the first indication that this was something special. The video quality is excellent - sharp and detailed images - DVD-Audios i borrowed will soon be joined by more of my own now i've dabbled a toe in that format.
At this price it's a great all-round player, though I wouldn't recommend it as up to audiophile quality for CDs.
one thing that really stands out for criticism is the remote, fiddly and awkward to use, it lets the system down a bit.

'WHAT A PLAYER'
Strengths:
great dvd player if you have a projector and using the progressive scan output.the sacd & dvd audio is very good and the cd play back is very good for a dvd player even if you plug it in to a 2 channel stereo amp because the player has a direct mode that turns the digital and video outputs off.
Weaknesses:
none that i can find.
Overall:
awesome dvd player and you can get it for great prices now.
