| 'BRIGHT, OPEN SOUND STAGE. BALANCED, VOCALLY SUBLIME' | | Strengths: running as the fronts to the monitor audio collective of silver front and sub, coupled with RSFX rears. Running Bi-amped. Mixed ranges of music are played with confidence, clarity and stunning detail. the low range is fast, punchy and balanced. so much so, the sub is all be redundant save for extremely low rumbles from the odd blu-ray action film. For me however it is the amount of detail in the mid to high end that make these units something of a continued joy. The look is modern and contemporary, not to everyone's taste i can imagine, build quailty is astonishingly good given the price point and the attention to design detail works. if you've a need for a fast, well balanced vocally clear speaker that's sub the grand mark, then RS8 is a must | | Weaknesses: they've a reasonably large foot print and do benefit from a little room behind them. Bi amping is something to with a good cable if the best is to be got from these lovely speakers. | | Overall: run them bi-amped, use a good cable (try the chord odyssey bu wire) and give them a little space and these units will play to your goosebumped emotions and pluck merrily at your heart strings with a bright and lively sound stage. |

| 'STUNNING SOUND AND LOOKS' | | Strengths: Heavy, well constructed and exceptional performance at the price. | | Weaknesses: XS bass may be a problem for small rooms. | | Overall: I got these for an absolute bargain (£390) from Sevenoaks in Brighton via ebay to replace my standmount Missions. They are great all-round performers and sound nice with my musical fidelity/rega set-up. I had to experiment with the port plugs in my smallish room as they were over-bassy when close to the walls. I would say they have more emphasis on the treble and deeper more accurate bass than my old missions and they are certainly more detailed. My girlfriend thinks they look awful with the covers off, but I love the look of the silver drivers against the black oak, and I didn't buy them for her anyway! If you want some real high quality speakers for not a lot of money then these must be on your shortlist. |

| 'OUTSTANDING' | | Strengths: Strong bass, unstrained delivery even at high levels | | Weaknesses: Big! | | Overall: Bought to complement a Monitor Audio centre speaker in a home cinema system, these turned out to be a real surprise on audition - a powerful presentation that initially seems bass light, only later do you realise it's the lack of 'boom' that is responsible. Nothing I've thrown at these speakers even at high levels upsets them. |

| 'FANTASTIC' | | Strengths: Build, Bass, unrivalled quality at this price | | Weaknesses: Dating look? | | Overall: I got these recently from Sevenoaks for £500 as the new RS8 model is now out. However, these are made in England, unlike the RS8, and in my opinion are of superior build. Paired with a Rotel RA-03 and a Cyrus CD6 it provides a wondrous listening environment |
