Strengths: Nice, clear sound. Voices are extremely good - this is ace for fans of audio books. Also excels with complex music, as the speaker is much better able to separate instruments. Compatible with certain very picky amplifiers and the vast majority of others. Can be bought off the reel and is a no-brainer to terminate.
Weaknesses: Nordost Flatline is significantly better but you have to pay for it. Only weak point sonically is with big, loud square-edged bass notes - can sound flabby. But to put that in context, using this cable to connect a pair of Rogers LS6 loudspeakers to a 130w rms Rotel power amp, Fatboy Slim has never sounded so mean. It really is only on BIG bass that it falters.
Overall: One of the few "designer" cables worth bothering with. The "reson" being that it's dead simple and made of quality materials. Bought off the reel (good idea) it pretty cheap too. As a by the way, you should have some of this lying around anyway even if it just sitting in a cupboard simply because its so damn useful for getting an idea of what speakers should like before you connect up your new expensive toy-cables.
Strengths: Transparent, dynamic and detailed. Great soundstage with plenty of space around instuments and voices. Controlled, detailed bass with good depth. Great for connecting directly to binding posts and easily hidden behind skirting boards!
Weaknesses: None.
Overall: Over the years I have used Naim NAC5, QED Silver Anniversary, Linn and Chord Co speaker cable with my Quad ESL's in an attempt to get the transparancy I was looking for.
I always felt that there was something missing until buying the DNM Reson speaker cable. The soundstage just opened up with clearer space around each instrument, greater depth and controlled, deep bass by the bucket load!
If you have Quad ESL's, DNM Reson is a must!
(PS: Give it 7/10 days to run in, or use a system burn-in CD to accelerate the process, the change is dramatic)
Weaknesses: Very thin cable so possibly not as robust as some. Need to use DNM own soldered banana plugs which add to cost as they are not cheap, about £4 each.
Overall: This cable sounds much better then the low price says it should. I recently upgraded from QED Silver Anniversary bi-wire and the DNM gives a taughter bassline, maybe not as full, but the notes stop and start more precisly. The music has better timing overall and a more refined treble/midrange. I use 2.5 metre runs to bi-wire my B&W 602's and they now sing. At this price it's a bargain, ignore some reviews of the beloved QED Anniversary, get this stuff in.
