'A WARM MUSICAL PLAYER'
Strengths:
Musical and easy going on the ear without loosing dynamics and verve

[Update 14/10/07] A warm and cosy sound with a musical, toe-tapping sound. Pretty good dynamics for the price. Responds well to cable upgrades

Weaknesses:
Needs an upgraded mains lead to give its best

[Update 14/10/07] Having auditioned classier players since purchase the sound is slightly lacking in detail and the bass lacking definition.

Overall:
Highly recommended before you pay out serious money, but do try a mains lead upgrade - it puts in the same league as a player twice the price!

[Update 14/10/07] Still a great under £500 player

'VERY GOOD (BUT NO CIGAR)'
Strengths:
Clean sounding, lots of detail. Would probably suit somebody who listens mostly to classical music.
Weaknesses:
Seemed to roll off at low frequencies. A little too reserved. Lacked power and punch, especially in lower registers compared with my (first generation, antique) Philips CD100 player
Overall:
Pretty good, but I returned it and swopped up to a Marantz SA8400

'GOOSEBUMPS AND RE-DISCOVERING OLD FRIENDS'
Strengths:
It's like listening to your favourite tracks for the first time all over again. New things to discover, previously hidden but now revealed in all their glory
Weaknesses:
None so far
Overall:
Just buy one and feel the goosebumps appear as you listening to your favourite tracks. Superb player and upgradable to higher models by dealer fitted kits. Makes you wonder how much better the higher models can be because this is wonderful
