Strengths: General sense of Quality. Good sound. Well designed interface. Really good value. Low noise floor and good sensitivity.
Weaknesses: Compared to a well maintained Troughline with Onething decoder, it has to run and hide. Would like to have a 'Standby' button on the remote. These are minor criticisms though and it is a very impressive overall achievement.
Overall: This has been an unexpectedly good experience. I was comparing against an Hitachi FT5500 Mk 2 which is a classic from previous decades and the Sony came out top. The midband was better and voices more accurately presented. The soundstage was not as wide as the Hitachi but the 3d imaging was better and it made the Hitachi sound recessed in the mid.
The going rate seems to be £157-£170 versus the original £250. It feels much higher quality than that and so far, it's the best DAB sound that I've heard (with all the limitations inherent here). It also looks better than it does in the pictures. Very cheap for what they've achieved.
