| 'SUPERB WITH DVD, THE BEST I HAVE SEEN.' | | Strengths: The best picture I have ever seen on any TV, and I did look at a lot of substantially more expensive units.
Actually "small" for a 50 inch non plasma. | | Weaknesses: On the factory settings (eye meltingly bright) I notice rainbows although my wife did not until I showed her how to. Especially on scenes with high contrast i.e. reflections of Darth Vaders helmet. The rainbows pretty much went away for me when I did a basic calibration using DVE.
Could use a manual the one Optoma sent me on disc appears to be wrong. What is ICC Y? | | Overall: I have to say I am very happy with this TV, the only shortcomings I would say are ones that I only noticed after reading a few forums on the issue namely the judder when viewing NTSC DVD's. I checked using Hellboy R1 and set my DVD player to output NTSC and yes there does seem to be some slight negative effect however outputting as PAL produces in my view a pretty flawless picture.
My DVD player is an old Sony DVP-S7700 which is not prog scan. I am feeding it through component leads and using the RD-50's processor which I have to say is producing an absolutely breathtaking picture.
Can't wait to try something through the DVI connection. |
