'EXCELLENT'
Strengths:
Certainly is a leap forward in sound quality
Weaknesses:
Tad stiff but flexy ends help
Overall:
Better than any copper or silver plated copper power cords I have tried. Will buy others from Krystal and see how they compare

'COPPER LAMP CORD'
Strengths:
None.
Weaknesses:
The cable is not as described. It is nothing more than copper cable.
Overall:
I purchased .5m Mercury in January 2005. Note this is said to be a solid silver dual screened cable.

The cable arrived and at first I was pleased. I heared a noticable difference in sound quality and I would say it was an improvement.

As other people have said the cable is stiff. This means it does not sit well in the components socket. I found if it were squeezed slightly near the component end then I would get pops and crackles though my system. I had a look under the shealth and inside the plug and was suprised to see two lengths of flex cord wired into the plug and the cable was clearly copper.

I sent the cable back and a replacement was returned. The reason for the pops was claimed to be the crimps used. Quite possibly. The new cable was now 1m long. I plugged it in and there were no pops but the sonic improvements I heard were also gone. I took another look inside the new cable and found again two lengths of cord but this time the cable inside was from a different manufacturer. It was easy to tell because the first cables had white jackets with the manufacturer name and details of the cable printed on the jacket. The new cable was black with nothing printed anywhere. They are different cables.

I have cut the cable open, removed the 'tails'. There are two COPPER coax cables, the kind used for cable TV. Explains why it is so stiff. The core of one carries live and the core of the second carries neutral. The earth is the screen from each woven together. Standard flex is soldered on to connect to the plug (the tails).

There is no solid silver cable here it is copper. The core of each coax is copper, the screen is copper the flex cord tails are copper. ITS ALL COPPER.

** REVIEW RESPONSE**
I am the proprietor of Krystal Kables. Firstly, let me assure everyone reading this posting that ALL our products are exactly as described on our website. Our motto is "We want 100% happy customers, not disgruntled poorer customers".

It would appear that the unfortunate position has arisen where the replacement cable sent during a busy period early last year was not in fact a Mercury power cord as was originally purchased by the buyer, because firstly there was a noticeable sonic degradation from the original cord and secondly, the description of the dismantled cable does not tally with any Mercury cable we have ever built. The cable has been revised and updated over the last 4 years and at no time has black insulation or indeed has 100% copper wire throughout been used in its construction.
There is a minimal amount of copper wire incorporated in the design, it has to be said. This is the only cable in the range that has a 'hybrid'
construction and it is reflected in the pricing structure.

My prime objective is to provide first class customer service at all times and had "earth" informed us at the appropriate time and not posted his complaint here 22 months later then the matter would have been settled immediately in a professional manner to his total satisfaction. To date we have sold over 4,000 cables worldwide and had only 6 cable returns with just 2 complaints - this being one of them. We are justifiably proud of this record and will continue to maintain high quality of products and service at affordable prices.

'DISAPPOINTING'
Strengths:
Can be sent back.
Weaknesses:
Cheap plugs used. Poorly made.
Overall:
Disappointing after the good reviews. Wouldn’t make a proper connection in the back of my CD player because the cable was too stiff to bend and caused a buzzing noise through the loudspeakers. Didn’t hear any improvement in sound, not as good as others I’ve tried like Chord and Merlin. One to avoid.

'Paying the extra for silver is well worthwhile'
Strengths:
Incredible amount of inner detail, more refined and crisper than the cheaper yet still excellent Titan cord.
Weaknesses:
Quite a stiff cable but flexible ends make for easy connection
Overall:
Have tried some very expensive power cords and none came remotely close in sound to these Krystal ones. The Titan is superb (I have 3) yet the Mercury silver surpasses it in every way. At the price it cannot be beaten. Best results are with their mains block.

'SUPERB'
Strengths:
I endorse everything that the first reviewer said about this cable. I started with the Titan, excellent in its way, but now have three Mercury silver power cords they are so good.
Weaknesses:
None that I have found.
Overall:
Very competively priced for a cable that well exceeds all the other expensive cables that I have tried, and sold on!

'IT'S LIKE TAKING POLISH & A DUSTER TO THE SOUND.'
Strengths:
Value ++. Good customer service. I discovered new details on cds I thought I knew well. Better separation between instruments & 'cleaner' sound too.
Weaknesses:
Build, while adequate, isn't as good as the bigger manufacturers.
Overall:
This cable easily outperformed my Russ Andrews'Classic Powerkords, which I had thought unbeatable at the price. The Mercury is extraordinary value for money - I will be buying more.
