'CD5X, NAIT AND A DVD IN ONE BOX - LOVELY'
Strengths:
exciting naim CD sound and capable pre-amp
brilliant DVD player - crisp picture and great colors
6 digital audio inputs
Good multichannel decoder
Weaknesses:
DVI out only - no HDMI switching
Nice amplifier, but limited in power - needs careful speaker matching
No SACD/DVD-A playback
Overall:
Great performance in all areas. It's like having a CD5x and a Nait in one box, mixed up with a very capable DVD player and a 5 channel power amp (and a Naim one at that!). Most "one box" solutions tend to be strong in either AV or hifi, but this excels at both. Pictures are brilliant if you use the direct DVI connection. Movie sound is dynamic and crisp, with excellent imaging. Hifi is toe-tapping good, with tones of rythm and great timing. Only criticism is that the internal amp is a bit limited with anything but the most sensitive speakers. Fine for multichannel, but for stereo, you'll want a stereo power amp (NAP200, or my Meridan 556 works well)
