| 'beer budget (hifi) phono pre amp?' | | Strengths: Cheap.
My initial imperssion is that it sounds as good as (if not a lot better - we'll see) the built in phono-amp on my AA Bellini pre amp. I intend to edit this article once the unit has aged. | | Weaknesses: Build quality - The black unit I purchased "allegedly" new from Richer Sounds had a chip on the front panel. I don't know whether this is due to Richer Sounds' poor stock control or due to lack of quality control at Cambridge Audio's factory - either way I think Cambridge Audio is to be blamed.
Hum - it is very, very, very audible. I kept it well away from my amplifiers as well as other sources, the length of connectors permitting. The Bellinin doesn't sound as half as loud, and my old Musical Fidelity X-LPS was dead silent.
