'REDISCOVER YOUR MOVIE COLLECTION'
Strengths:
A sturdy well built unit with a clear OSD set-up and 2 line LED display.
More AV inputs than you can shake a stick at and some well specified features from the very basic to satisfy a newbie like me to some more sophisticated filters and outputs which have me wondering if the next DVD player realy should come from Tesco!
Weaknesses:
Very few and these are mostly niggles.
Getting round the double sided remote is a bit fiddly but you only realy need to do this at set-up.
Preset device list is a bit restricted and seems to be 99% aimed at the US market, in todays global market this could do with some better research.
Preset device selectors are two tiny slide switches on the front of the remote. The main Audio / Video switch only 2 positions so no trouble but the device selector switch has 4 close positions, bit naff, keep your other remotes close to hand. At the store demo the salesman was using a remote from a high spec AVR, now I see why.
Overall:
Four years ago on the day before my daughter was born my wife and I watched our last Cinema film on it's release day together (Two Towers). Now we re-live much of that experience at home.
This is our first forray into a full 5.1 AV set-up having previously had a Dolby ProLogicII on a JVC 32" TV and been disapointed with it because sound quality was not a pacth on the Philips it replaced.

The AVR 1907 was selected against Sony DGB700 and the Pioneer VSX-916 or would have been if I could have found somebody to demo Pioneer equipment. The Denon was therefore the more expensive unit, even at a discounted price. But scored well on listening and reading reviews and specs (mostly on it's 1906 predecessor) It is now hooked up to some Q-Acoustic 1000 series speakers and sound delivery is awesome. I have experimented with discs with Dolby 5.1 and DTS and can recommend DTS to fellow newbies, not to say Dolby isn't good but on the Denon DTS is a whole load better.
Appart from niggles with the two sided remote on set-up noted above, operation is easy. It comes with a mic for auto set-up and this is a doddle, the only thing to slow you down when getting started is cabling the speakers. Sound delivery is clear and distinct on voices and sound FX where is needs to be and well blended on atmospherics and background to give that total immersion feeling. At 400W power consumption, CBeebies get's played on the TV speakers, but no DVD is ever going to be played with this machine off. Again I do like some background music and either using the tuner, freeview radio or a music disc in the DVD player (CD or MP3) sound quality is still sharp.

It'll be a long time before Blockbuster see us again we're too busy going over our DVD collection rediscovering our existing Movies, even ones that get played daily (Finding Nemo, Shrek, Toy Story etc) have had a new dimension added to them, all we need now is a projector and some popcorn.
