'Top drawer in this price range. A must listen.'
Strengths:
Detailed but not too crisp. Perhaps slightly on the dry side but this works beautifully with my other components and especially vinyl playback. Bass clarity is amazing within this power-class. Imaging and channel separation is above average. Build quality is great with a very solid feel to all the controls.
Weaknesses:
Just a bit more power would be great (that said, hard to argue with the purity of the 50 watts that are there now). Having to buy the remote separately is a bit of a pain and adds about $125 CDN to the price.
Overall:
This unit offers a very musical and balanced package well suited for chamber music, jazz, roots/country and vocal music. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the amp is the balanced quality to the sound. No frequencies are over emphasized and if you had to pick one word to describe the sound it would be 'cohesive'. The sound just has a rightness to it that, as a musician, I look for.

This is is possibly not a rock or electronica amp where you need/want some sheer strength and power. This is an amp that can help you engage with the subtlety of the recorded music and feel how the performance all works together.

It is beautifully constructed with nice smooth controls, thick front faceplate and beefy speaker terminals. The unit uses many of the same components as its YBA big brother (which shows) but is constructed in Taiwan to keep costs down.

I strongly recommend this amp for any acoustic, vocal and jazz music. Worth putting it on your short list for sure. I'm going to hang on to this one for quite a while.

Other Equipment - Rotel CD1072, Pro-Ject RPM 5, Sumiko Black Pearl MM Cartridge, Pro-Ject Tube Box SE, PSB Image B25 Monitor standmount speakers, Vintage Kenwood KT-6500 Tuner, Kimbre Timbre interconnects, Acoustic Tech speaker cables
